Apple iPhone 17 Pro

The iPhone 17 Pro packs almost everything from the Pro Max into a more manageable 6.3-inch body. Its OLED display runs at 120Hz with the same 3,000 nit peak brightness, so it is just as readable in sunlight despite the smaller footprint.

At 206 grams it is far easier to use one-handed than the Max, and the flat-edged design feels dense and well made in the hand. The 2622 by 1206 panel is pin sharp, and for most people this is the sweet spot in Apple's line-up between screen size and everyday comfort.

The 17 Pro uses the same A19 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM as the Max, so raw speed is virtually identical, with an AnTuTu score in the same 2.5 million range. Apps launch instantly and the most demanding games run without hesitation.

The only trade-off is thermal headroom. In very long gaming sessions the smaller chassis warms up sooner, but for typical use you will never notice a difference against its larger sibling, and performance stays strong throughout the day.

The camera system mirrors the Max: a 48MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide and a 4x optical telephoto, backed by an 18MP front camera. That gives you the same framing flexibility and the same excellent detail in a lighter phone.

Video is again a strength, with 4K120 capture and ProRes for creators, while the telephoto is genuinely useful for portraits and distant subjects. Whether you shoot stills or clips, the results are indistinguishable from the more expensive model.

A 4,252mAh battery is smaller than the Max but still good for a comfortable full day thanks to the efficient A19 Pro. Wired charging reaches around 40W and MagSafe adds up to 25W wirelessly.

If you are upgrading from an older Pro, endurance will feel like a clear step up even though this is not the biggest cell in the range, and fast wired charging means short breaks refill a lot of the battery.

With the latest iOS and long-term update support, the 17 Pro is the phone to buy if you want flagship power without the size and weight of the Max. It costs less, too, which nudges its value score higher.

Choose it if one-handed use and pocketability matter and you do not need the absolute largest screen or the longest battery. Step up to the Pro Max only if extra stamina and display real estate are worth the extra weight and money to you.
